TAR Concierge Reviews: Solaya, London

Jessica Gardiner

Every so often, a new opening in London redefines the city’s dining scene, creating not just a restaurant, but a destination. Solaya, the brand-new French-Mediterranean jewel perched on the 25th floor of art’otel London Hoxton, is exactly that – a glamorous, sky-high escape where sweeping views, refined cooking, and an unmistakable sense of occasion combine to deliver one of the capital’s most exciting culinary debuts.

From the moment you step inside, Solaya makes its intentions clear. Encased in 360-degree floor-to-ceiling glass, the space frames London’s skyline like a work of art. As day fades into night, the city glitters beneath you, cocktails in hand, and the atmosphere shifts effortlessly from serene to electric. It is, in every sense, a stage set for celebration – a place where evenings stretch on and memories are made.

At the helm of this ambitious venture is Michelin-starred chef Kenny Atkinson, whose pedigree at House of Tides and Solstice has earned him national acclaim. Here, alongside Head Chef Nicola Losquadro (formerly of Sucre and Mere), Atkinson presents a menu that captures the sun-drenched flavours of the Côte d’Azur while celebrating London’s cosmopolitan energy.

A Culinary Journey

The Assistant Room concierge team began with a series of small plates designed for sharing – and what a beginning it was. The tuna tartare emerged as a standout, a jewel-like composition that dazzled both visually and on the palate. The scallop crudo, already a darling of Instagram, proved it has substance as well as style, while the smoked taramasalata and wild mushroom croquettes brought depth, richness, and a touch of indulgence to the opening act.

For the main course, we shared the côte de boeuf – a dish of true theatre. Cooked to perfection, its charred exterior giving way to a blushingly tender centre, it was the embodiment of convivial dining, carved and savoured across the table. To finish, the strawberry sorbet was as refined as it was refreshing, a delicate conclusion that lingered like the final note of a symphony.

The drinks programme is equally compelling. From an elegant wine list to cocktails that lean into craft without pretension, every glass raised feels celebratory. Our (slightly) dirty martinis were impeccably balanced, a nod to the classic with just enough edge to feel modern.

The Solaya Experience

Yet beyond the food and drink, Solaya’s true allure lies in its spirit. The service team, still finding their rhythm in these early weeks, exude warmth, attentiveness, and an eagerness that only enhances the sense of occasion. Add in live DJ sets from Wednesday to Saturday, and the restaurant transforms into a destination that transcends dinner – a playground in the clouds.

With a £35 set menu available, Solaya proves that glamour doesn’t have to be unattainable. Whether it’s a spontaneous evening with friends, a romantic interlude, or a glittering celebration, Solaya delivers the rare combination of Michelin-level finesse and effortless cool – a fusion that feels uniquely, thrillingly London.
