A hidden gem, the Lock Tavern in Camden might not be a new venue but it certainly has something for everyone.
Established as an institution by hosting the likes of Adele, Franz Ferdinand and Florence + The Machine on its upstairs stage (check out on their Facebook page here for future performances), The Lock Tavern it is now under new ownership with a new chef and half a million pounds of refurbishments pumped into it.
Located directly outside the busy streets of central Camden, you certainly feel separated from the hustle and bustle and can spend the evening unwinding in a relaxed atmosphere. With three floors, a roof terrace and a spacious beer garden, The Lock is a great place to relax and enjoy a beer in the sun or a mulled wine in the winter in a cosy and welcoming venue.
With the refurbishment has come a new line of craft beers on tap which are included in their killer happy hour specials for as little as £3 a pint (even on a Friday!), with a great new food menu featuring some British classics mixed in with a few delicious surprises.
With a new kitchen team and brilliant head chef at the helm you can enjoy a range of classic pub options all of which are not only presented well and are good portions. During our visit, their appetisers immediately caught out eye and we spent the first part of our visit tucking into plates of pork belly bites, salsa bruschetta and smoky chorizo to start. They offer several vegan options which would satisfy even the most carnivorous of carnivores including curried cauliflower with pickled aubergine, black onion seeds, cauliflower puree and chickpeas in a delicious curry sauce. It’s an explosion of flavours that will make you slightly more appreciative of how much the team have dedicated to making The Lock Tavern as inclusive as possible.
For roast lovers, The Lock claim to have one of the best Sunday roasts in London and are certainly are not light fingered on the portions.
For those of you that know the history and the pub well, it is certainly worth a revisit to inspect the changes to everything from the decor to the menu to sampling their new range of refreshments.
For those of you who have net yet been, don’t miss out on what is certainly a fantastic destination in one of London’s most well known boroughs and one of the coolest places we have ever seen to host your next office shindig.
