Located in the heart of the City, just a stone’s throw away from Liverpool Street Station you will find Piazza Italiana, the breathtakingly beautiful restaurant, bar and events space housed in a spectacular grade-II listed building – the former home of the British Linen Bank on Threadneedle Street. On a scorching summers day in the height of London’s summer heatwave we hosted a spectacular Festive Showcase Event at the very special Piazza Italiana for 53 wonderful Assistants eager to experience the venue and its Christmas offerings first hand.

It is impossible not to notice the incredible architecture and interiors when entering the restaurant with the Neoclassical Corinthian columns and ceilings all being part of the original designs when the bank was opened in 1902 and been lovingly restored inside what would have been the former telling room of the British Linen Bank. From the hand painted art on the ceilings, dark wooden floors and rich velvet textures all add to the exclusive and luxurious feel the space has to offer.

We were delighted to host our event in the spacious and light filled Mezzanine area which has impressive views of the elegant main dining room in one direction whilst views of the walled garden can be glimpsed through the rooms grand arched windows in the other. The Mezzanine is able accommodate up to 50 guests seated and 60 guests for a standing reception.

Piazza Italiana is home to some of the most beautiful event spaces in the City with their ground floor Private Dining Room definitely on our list. Serving up to 14 guests the design for the Ante Chamber takes inspiration from a contemporary interpretation of Venetian palaces. Delicate hand painted ceilings accentuate the graciousness of the room and soft tones of the decor provide the perfect setting for any occasion that requires a private space for either business affairs or a more intimate dinner.

The real showstopper of private dining options can be found on the upper floor at the far end of the Mezzanine area through a private unassuming door. The space offers a warm, luxurious, and welcoming atmosphere for intimate private functions and can seat up to a maximum of 20 guests. The room has the option of its own private bar for its diners with the floating lights above the bar counter lend further drama to the space and allowing its diners an option for the entire evening that would include a sit-down meal as well as standing drinks reception for the group in one private space.

Whilst our guests arrived the well attentive bar staff ensured that everyone in attendance had a deliciously cold glass of bubbles or festive cocktail in hand as the event got underway and the sound of introductions and remarks of approval of the venue filled the Mezzanine. Drinks were generously free flowing throughout the evening as the satisfied group were given tours of all event spaces by the accommodating team.

Executive Chef and Creative Director Victor Ravdive has created unforgettable experiences for all guests that have dined at Piazza Italiana. Every menu that Victor creates is something special and influenced by the global culinary experiences gained from working in restaurants and events around the world amongst world class chefs for many years. The canape menu we were lucky enough to be served was no exception to this.

With the team showcasing the Festive Menu’s available to book, we enthusiastically sampled an elegant menu of;

– Oyster with wine poached-cucumber tartare and red caviar

– Mini toasts with creme fraiche, quail egg and smoked salmon

– Winter mushroom panna-cotta with truffle cream

– Slow-cooked turkey, pancetta crisp, apple cream, cracker

– Gingerbread cheesecake with cranberry sugar pops

The remarkably fresh and outstandingly tasty oysters being my personal firm favourite amongst them all, especially when paired with a crisp cold glass of bubbles!

The evening was a huge success, and an enjoyable time was had by everyone in attendance. The team at Piazza Italiana are now taking reservations for all Christmas events from general dining bookings to exclusive hire of the entire banking hall which is available for up to 180 guests.
