• Trevor Sorbie is a force to be reckoned with in the hairdressing industry. Known affectionately as the ‘Godfather of Hairdressing’ Trevor is one of the most famous, and inspirational hairdressers’ working today. Having launched his flagship salon in Covent Garden in 1979, it remains the premier hair destination in London to treat those tresses.

In the years that have passed since then, Trevor has opened a further four salons, and academies in London and Shanghai. His other achievements include owning a successful product range, founding a the charity mynewhair, numerous industry awards and TV appearances, and being the first hairdresser to receive an M.B.E from Her Majesty the Queen! Impressive stuff eh!

He firmly believes in his core philosophies of “real hair, for real people” and “taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary”, something I think we can all relate to. His top priorities remain inspiring other hairdressers to achieve their best, ensuring every client who visits his salon leaves feeling their best, with the right products to care for their hair at home, and helping people suffering from medical hair loss to feel their absolute best in times when it probably feels impossible.

As a long term lover of Trevor Sorbie and his many gorgeous beyond belief products that adorn my bathroom shelves at home, I eagerly made my way from Covent Garden station to the salon based on Floral Street on a morning when some serious TLC was in order. I always look forward to completely surrendering myself to the person washing and cutting my hair during salon visits, it seems to be the only time that I ever fully unwind, clearing my mind and putting myself before work. Owning your own business is a 24/7 job!

Whether you’re looking for a cut, colour or texturising treatment (via everything in-between!) the salon on Floral Street offers a comprehensive service menu. With hairdressers’ who have all undergone Trevor’s own vigorous training regime, you can be assured of receiving the highest quality hair service. And it doesn’t stop there, if you’re in the mood for some full-body TLC, the salon is also home to FOX Beauty and Nails, who can look after all your grooming needs giving you a new lease of life upon exit.

Greeted by the most wonderful front of house team I was guided to the waiting area where the best possible morning options of fruit and cake were laid out perfectly on a consume at your will basis. I unfortunately (or fortunately in my case) was whisked away before I could get my hands on any of the beautifully presented fresh array of morning treats to the chair of Senior Stylist Wai, my new favourite tonsorial artist.

Inspired to become a hairdresser following some disastrous haircuts (her words not mine), Wai has some top career advice for us all “whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy”. Amen! After an incredible consultation and 10 minutes getting to know each other, it was as if this was not my first visit but one of many preceding it.

We decided on the cut, talking through many of the issues I had experienced before in a way that I can only possibly describe as salon/hair nightmares. When you go from waist length hair to Victoria Beckham bob completely unwillingly, you become rather protective what you do have after a 4 year spell of growing your ‘do’ out. Wai immediately gained my trust and I moved on to my favourite part, the eagerly anticipated hair wash.

Robe on, feet up, yes…feet UP! Hair washed and with a treatment which smelt like a bouquet from Maison De Fleurs applied, my morning was off to an incredible start. Throw a double macchiato into the mix which was waiting for me back at Wai’s position in the salon and my life at that point was the definition of #goals.

Relaxed and ready for a new barnet in the very capable hands of a Trevor Sorbie trained expert, Wai started to work her magic giving me a good inch or so off of my bottom layer and tidying up a number of previous haircuts that all rolled into one didn’t quite make sense. Our aim was to take me from zero to hero and sharpen my style while keeping it easy to maintain in an effort to keep up with my busy schedule. On the topic of schedules, Trevor Sorbie does something I am particularly in love with as for those of us who simply cannot fit a bit of salon time into our schedules, they are able to visit you in your own home.

After half an hour of expert attention, Wai managed to get my new head of hair silky straight. With a strong natural S shape to my locks, it takes an almighty effort to accomplish a straight style which is definitely possible but normally only after 30 minutes of pulling with a brush and a decent amount of heat. Both of which I am not a huge fan of.

With a few extra super fine layers added to the overall look, we moved onto the discussion of maintenance and the ways to easily change up my look without any additional visits to the hairdressers chair. To spend the morning with someone who is full of passion and love for what they do for a living was by far, apart from the kickass hair cut’ the best part of my visit.

I immediately re-booked myself in for a visit in three months with of course, Wai to lend a hand once again in making me look as presentable as possible. If that does not prove how incredible Trevor Sorbie on Floral Street is then I don’t know what will.

Now of course I was not only at Trevor Sorbie to get my locks tended to but this was also the perfect opportunity to get to know the Salon Director Trev and talk business. Among a number of things I hope to be sending your way in partnership with Trevor Sorbie in the future, I can immediately let you guys in on the exclusive 20% off that as readers of The Assistant Room, you can use at your own will on all of their hair services with either a Stylist or Technician. It really could not get any easier as just quote the below code ”assistant room” at the time of booking and BOOM! 20% off meaning those last minute bouncy blow drys or that colour you have been meaning to get for a while will be yours without costing an arm and a leg.

So let us know how your visit goes and what you chose! As you can probably tell, I’m now completely addicted to this corner of CG in London and if you’re anything like me, you soon will be too.
